As we transitioned from tent camping to truck camping, I felt a little sadness. The tent has served us well for over 30 years of camping. Then I remember all the positives of truck camping, and recovered quickly. After all, there is a queen size mattress, heater, shower, refrigerator, sink, stove top… Driving around Lake Superior in the truck will also be nice for the protection it provides from wildlife. Although we have camped in “bear areas” many times throughout the years, and never experienced a problems. When you hear those strange noises in the night, having a more substantial wall, than canvas, is comforting. Now having explained how much we are enjoying all these creature comforts, I didn’t hesitate to reserve a tent site on Madeline Island. It was the only type of campsite left, and that was over two months ago. Big Bay State Park is very popular, and I am looking forward to tent camping for a couple days.
